5 exterior building cleaning jobs for spring

Category: Spring cleaning

Spring officially began on the 20th of March. The warmer, brighter and longer days will be a welcome change after what feels like a very long, wet winter.

The tradition of spring cleaning - the practice of thoroughly cleaning a house - can be traced back to religious festivals such as khaneh tekani (literally shaking the house) in preparation for the Persian New Year, or the ancient Jewish practice of cleansing the home in anticipation of the springtime festival Passover.

Whatever its origins, cleaning is certainly front of mind around this time of year, so we thought we’d share some key exterior building cleaning tasks to bear in mind for your commercial premises. Here are some of the main exterior cleaning jobs to consider when you are planning ongoing maintenance for your commercial premises. The work can be implemented quickly and efficiently, and the end results are often transformative.

1.    Façade cleaning

Sunshine exposes the dirt and grime that has built up over the winter months, including biofilms such as algae. Cleaning the façade of a building is not only about aesthetics. Algae actively contributes to the degeneration of surface materials and will proliferate until removed.

2.    Pathways, stairs and other paved areas

Moss, lichen and algae create dangerously slippery surfaces,a definite Health and Safety hazard on steps and pathways. As well as making paved areas look well maintained, removing algae and other biofilms will help prevent accidents.

3.    Windows and glass

Clean windows, glass canopies and other glass surfaces can sparkle in the sunshine, ensuring your buildings look their best and helping to create a great impression.

4.    Graffiti Removal

Graffiti vandalism is a serious and persistent challenge for property owners and managers, especially in larger cities. It is critical to get graffiti tags removed as quickly as possible to prevent copycat attacks.

5.    Gutter cleaning

If you haven’t already had your gutters cleaned, do it now. You can even save money by arranging to have your gutters cleaned at the same time as window cleaning and façade cleaning.
