Builders Clean for City Centre development
We recently carried out a builders clean for a City Centre development. Ongoing building work to develop the site had created a lot of unsightly construction debris around the otherwise beautiful building exteriors and shared open spaces. So, when the builders finished the most recent phase of construction, the estate managers contacted OneFifty to provide a full clean of 6,000 square metres of the site.
Challenges associated with a Builders Clean
Providing a builders clean takes a different approach to our usual exterior building cleaning service. When builders vacate a site, they leave behind construction dust, concrete smears, mortar smears, dropped paint and construction debris. Construction dust from concrete powder can lodge on surfaces and become hard, making it difficult to remove. Clumps and smears of concrete not only cause potential tripping hazards by making surfaces uneven, they also create unsightly marks.

We used an acid cleaner to dissolve unwanted materials on the paved areas, brick work and concrete benches. It was important to dilute the solution to safe levels for our cleaners to work with and also to make sure it didn’t damage any surfaces. The acid solution we used was a non-fuming masonry cleaner, a safe alternative for working in cordoned off areas of the pedestrianised zone.
Once we had removed all construction debris we hot washed all surfaces using our state-of-the-art steam cleaning technology to provide a brilliant finish.
A tight turnaround
The estate management team were working to an extremely tight deadline - all cleaning work had to be completed over a two-day period that week.
Our Director, Max Morris, pulled out all the stops to arrange six men to work onsite over Friday and Saturday that week to deliver the builders clean needed to leave the area looking spotless. The client was thrilled with our quick turnaround.
Taking care of Health and Safety
In our line of work health and safety considerations are critical; this project was no exception with a busy pedestrianised area and surrounding walkways.
We arranged a site inspection before starting work to ensure we’d completed the necessary health and safety risk assessment and had the required approvals.
Our experienced operators followed tried and tested procedures, like cordoning off the area they were working in, to support safe working. They also took a careful and considerate approach to keep pedestrians safe and cause minimal disruption.
